‘Taonga 2’ from my Inheritance series. A journey of finding my way home, discovering family, exploring culture and understanding identity.
Multiple layers of acrylic paint and iridescent inks on linen.
This painting has been created on a professionally stretched linen canvas. With the sides painted, the back taped and strung, this work of art is ready to hang. It has been finished with a high gloss varnish and measures 30 x 30cm (12”x 12”).
When I first met my brother Brownie, he embraced me into the family, reciting our whakapapa and blessing me in Te Reo. He gave me the pendant from around his neck, a koru design that he had carved from a Mother of Pearl shell, and I felt such an incredible sense of belonging. I have created this painting 'Taonga' inspired by the shape of the carved pendant.
